Heat Treatment Recommendation
To achieve optimal performance from your 1080 & 15N20 Damascus billet:
- Normalize: Heat to ~870°C (1600°F), air cool (repeat 2–3 cycles)
- Austenitize: Heat to ~800°C (1475°F)
- Quench: Warm oil (~60°C / 140°F)
- Temper: 200–205°C (390–400°F), 2–3 cycles of 1 hour each
This process typically results in a hardness of 58–60 HRC with a good balance of edge retention and toughness
