For optimal results with 1080 × 15N20 Damascus:
Normalize: Heat to ~870 °C (1600 °F); air cool 2–3 times.
Austenitize: Heat to ~800 °C (1475 °F).
Quench: Warm oil quench (~60 °C / 140 °F).
Temper: Two cycles at 200–205 °C (390–400 °F) for one hour each.
This heat-treat schedule provides a balanced hardness of ~58–60 HRC, blending strong edge retention with dependable toughness.
