Heat Treatment Recommendation
For best results with 1080 & 15N20 Damascus steel:
- Normalize: 2–3 cycles of heating and air cooling for grain refinement
- Austenitize: Heat to ~800°C (1475°F)
- Quench: Warm oil quench (~60°C / 140°F)
- Temper: 200–205°C (390–400°F), 2–3 cycles of 1 hour each
This process delivers a final hardness of approximately 58–60 HRC with strong edge retention and toughness.
