Description
Damascus Bar (280×50×3–4 mm) – Black Edge Feather Pattern – 1095 & 15N20 – Knife Making Billet
Our Black Edge Feather Damascus Bar (280×50×3–4 mm) is a handmade billet made with high-carbon 1095 and nickel-rich 15N20 steel. It is created from around 800–1000 layers, and it has feather-like symmetry with dark etching at its edges. Etched, annealed, and ready for forging or stock-removal knife making, this black edge feather damascus bar provides premium contrast and excellent strength for custom blade makers.
Deep-Etched Feather Pattern – Annealed – Ready for Forging or Stock Removal
This Black Edge Feather Damascus Bar is fully annealed for smooth machining, grinding, or forging. Its deep-etched feather structure is a result of precision splitting and pressing of stacked billets, which creates a flowing pattern with bold dark highlights. Ideal for bladesmiths who are looking for a striking, high-contrast texture with high steel performance.

Heat Treatment Recommendation
For optimal performance with 1095 × 15N20 Damascus:
-
Normalize: Heat to ~870 °C (1600 °F); air cool 2–3 times.
-
Austenitize: Heat to ~800 °C (1475 °F).
-
Quench: Warm oil quench (~60 °C / 140 °F).
-
Temper: Two cycles at 200–205 °C (390–400 °F) for one hour each.
This produces a balanced hardness of ~58–60 HRC, offering excellent edge retention with reliable toughness.
