Heat Treatment Recommendation

To achieve optimal results for this 1095 × 15N20 Damascus billet:

  1. Normalize: Heat to ~870 °C (1600 °F); air cool three times.
  2. Austenitize: ~800 °C (1475 °F) and soak briefly.
  3. Quench: Warm oil quench (~60 °C / 140 °F).
  4. Temper: Two to three cycles at 200–205 °C (390–400 °F) for one hour each.

This treatment produces a balanced hardness around 58–60 HRC with good toughness and edge stability.
